Another first in generics packaging from Almus
29 September 2005

Almus Pharmaceuticals has scored another first in the generics industry with the introduction of full colour illustrations of the pills contained in each pack. These illustrations will appear in full colour, actual size and with markings on the front fascia of Almus packaging with an additional illustration on the rear of the box.

The new pill illustration is an example of the patient-centred design concept which is integral to Almus packaging and has evolved from research identifying 'best practice' in packaging and patient safety throughout Europe.

Illustrations of pills have always been included in the Almus product guide - with feedback from pharmacists confirming their usefulness for reference within the dispensary and as an aid to patient consultations. Almus is now making these benefits more immediately available to pharmacists and their patients, presenting the pill illustration on the pack front to further aid recognition, safety and compliance.

Tony Foreman, Group Director of Commercial Activities, Alliance UniChem says, "Almus continues to be a catalyst for change in the generics market. We believe that the pharmaceutical industry, along with all other stakeholders in the healthcare chain, have a responsibility to continue researching and finding innovative ways to improve patient safety and increase our added-value offering to our customers. This evolution in Almus packaging design recognises the diverse needs of those people who will be handling the medicine and also represents our commitment to continue driving innovation within the UK generics market"

"Tablet identification on the pack is an absolute lifesaver. It's easy to make a mistake and this is a way to prevent it. We provide a lot of unit dosage packs for the elderly and once the tablets are removed from their packaging, it's very difficult to spot the errors when checking and, very difficult for the elderly to identify." David Winton, MrPharm S, Cadge Pharmacy, Tottenham.
